Little P does some crafting!

A cold, miserable afternoon- we didnt feel like doing anything adventurous after school today and I wanted to free up some time to make a few more hair clips so before pick up I ran up a person shaped base for a softee. When little P arrived home she stuffed it and helped to sew the gap left for turning and stuffing. Then I left her to it and she sorted out the hair, used felt tips for the face and make a little dress but cutting out a circle of fabric and cutting a hole in the centre for the head.

So there you have it, one happy afternoon's crafting and one very happy little girl!

Tuesday news

We've been making the most of a spell of dry (but still very cold weather) and have been pressing on with the design and construction of our allotment. you can just begin to see from the picture the trapezium shaped bed on the left and where we've marked out the same (reflected) shape on the right. These will eventually be contained by wooden boards and will house the main vegetable rotation system. Mr B is being very helpful and is in charge of timber construction on the plot. Here he is wheeling the extremely heavy turfs to the back of the plot.

It's really heartening to see the plans we made just starting to take shape on the ground. I'm itching to do some actual planting but I reckon we've still got a long way to go before any seeds go in. Probably going to start off some garlic and onions in small cells in the greenhouse this week, ready to plant out when they have started to grow. This also minimises the sets getting disturbed by birds once in the plot if you start them off in pots first.

I've also made time for some sewing this week. A good friend of mine has just had a new baby so I took this as the perfect excuse to try out a new bootie design. I've previously made the slip on type with elastic built into the shoe around the ankle and across the instep. These look great but end up being quite large for a newborn. The type I've trialled this time is a more structured, lined shoe with a snap fastener closure. Admittedly they are a lot more fiddly to make, but I'm hoping that the fit will be better. I've also lined the ones below with linen which should help them retain more of a structured look.
